But if you haven’t already moved, have you planned to do so on what will be the busiest day of the year for home moves?
According to research from the HomeOwners Alliance (HOA), Friday 30 August will be the busiest day for removal companies up and down the country this year. An estimated 6,500 moves will take place that day.
The organisation also revealed that August has been the most popular month for people to move home for the past 12 years.
Friday is typically the busiest day of the week for home moves too, with 28 per cent of people choosing this as the day that they get the keys for their new property and leave their old one behind.
The quietest day for moving is Sunday, with just 5.8 per cent of moves taking place on that day of the week.
Paula Higgins, HOA chief executive, explained that, particularly for families, August is a good time of year to move because it gives the whole family time to settle into their new property before the new school year begins.
“It’s also a natural result of the Spring Bounce - when we see more people buying and selling homes,” she added. “It can take until the summer to get through the home buying and selling process.”
If you’ve been trying to sell your home for a while and have been struggling to see much interest, try sprucing up your garden to help boost interest from buyers. Research by Zoopla and the Society of Garden Designers recently found that 47 per cent of renters and buyers want a garden that they can enjoy straight away and are put off homes where the gardens need work.
