It seems that there are some home improvements which can actually be detrimental to the value of your property and not only that but can often put off prospective homebuyers.

The findings were detailed in a Property Reporter article and revealed that making drastic changes to the look of the property could in fact alienate potential buyers who may find your own personal tastes to be unappealing.

Making a room bigger by knocking down a partition wall and turning two bedrooms into a larger more spacious one could reduce the price of your property. Indeed, the opposite could also apply, as Bola Ranson, founder of commercial property estate agency, explains: "Consider adding rooms by converting a very large bedroom into two smaller rooms. This will immediately add value to your home."

It does seem that more and more people are having a go at smaller DIY project these days – after all, it is often the little touches that catch a buyer’s eye. Keeping your outdoor spaces tidy and tending to your garden can go a long way, as will a lick of paint here and there to help keep the general aesthetic of your home appealing.
